WHAT IS ASPHALT PAVING?

Asphalt is created from stone, sand, and gravel, and is held together by a specific binder “asphalt cement”. It is a ‘flexible’, yet durable material used for parking lots, roads, and other infrastructure. Surprisingly, asphalt is 100% recyclable, making it a sustainable paving option. From new construction to repairs, asphalt provides a cost-effective and long-lasting solution for parking lots and roads.

PAVING MAINTENANCE IS CRITICAL

It is critical to the life of your paving project, to maintain asphalt surfaces. Asphalt naturally undergoes a process called oxidation. During the process, the asphalt binder slowly breaks down causing the pavement’s flexible surface to lose its elasticity. The loss of flexibility combined with vehicle traffic, weather, and other elements can result in the surface becoming brittle and vulnerable to asphalt failure, such as cracking and potholes. Regular maintenance, proper repair of damaged areas, and expertly designed new construction add years to the life of an asphalt parking lot or road.

PAVING REPAIR & PATCHING

Repair and patching is a pavement maintenance option that replaces specific areas of deterioration (significant cracking or potholes). The repairs target individual troubled areas and can be addressed in many ways including pothole filling, surface patching, mill and patching, and dig out patching.

PAVING OVERLAY

A paving overlay is simply the process of applying a new layer of asphalt over an existing asphalt surface. An overlay may be an applicable maintenance option if an asphalt surface needs repair, but the base is still in good condition.

PAVING – FULL-DEPTH REPLACEMENT

If your paving is in very poor condition, full-depth replacement may be required for an appropriate and effective repair. Full-depth replacement entails digging out the damaged asphalt down to the rock base and replacing it with new asphalt.

CURBING

The raised edge made of asphalt installed along an asphalt surface is known as a curb. Curbing creates a boundary of driving areas and directs water flow. Curbing also provides a parking lot with a beautiful, finished look while offering structural support to the pavement edge.

PAVING SPEED BUMPS

Speed bumps are often installed to reduce traffic speed or volume and increase overall safety. A speed bump is made of asphalt or composite materials such as rubber or plastic, with a low raised ridge.

NEW PAVING CONSTRUCTION & EXPANSION

Sometimes commercial properties need a new or the expansion of a current parking lot. New pavement construction and expansion include site preparation and creation of a new asphalt lot or road or adding to an existing asphalt surface. A new asphalt surface can be created from undeveloped land, or an existing rock lot or road.

ADA COMPLIANCE

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires all parking lots and paths of travel must comply. Augusta Line Striping can confirm all of our projects are and will be, once completed, in compliance with the ADA.
